Charlie Rae Walker
Charlie Rae Walker creates art experiences in the diverse media of painting, printmaking, performance, experimental dance, mask, lo-fi video, hand drawn animation, puppetry, shadow projection, songwriting and music.
The thematic threads that weave through her work are synesthesia, dream recollection, diverse experiences of mental health, ability/disability, storytelling, migration, connection to ancestry, synesthesia, inner landscapes, improvisation, and intuition.
For many years Charlie worked as a performing artist and musician in Vancouver BC—creating whimsical shadow theatre experiences and soundtracks to experimental puppetry with former collaborator Wryly Andherson of Moth Orbit Object Theatre.
In 2017 Charlie moved to Oaxaca, Mexico for a mural painting residency and printmaking apprenticeship. She now lives and works in Winnipeg, creating paintings, prints, music, and explorations of multidisciplinary art. Charlie is an active member of Martha Street printmaking studio, where they explore experimental screen print and lithography techniques. Her musician moniker is A RAVEN CALLED CROW and under that name Charlie has produced two albums.
