About the workshop:

STUCK WITH A LITTLE WRITER’S BLOCK?

WANT TO RE-ENERGIZE YOUR DAILY MOVEMENT OR WRITING PRACTICE?

LOOKING TO DANCE WITH SOME PALS AND PLAY IN IMAGINATIVE SPACES?

In this workshop, we will explore writing as a way to document, artistically archive, and inspire dance & movement. Participants will be guided through both writing and dance/movement exercises that will intersect with each other. Emily & Tanner will be using tools from devising, contemporary dance, physical theatre and musical theatre practices as participants spend 2 days exploring theatrical collage and emotional narrative as a throughline in work. This duo hopes to grow your artistic toolkit; providing & reminding participants of different tools / resources / artistic pathways we can utilize at all points during a dance or theatre creation process.

Throughout the workshop, we will reference & use examples of text and choreography from Walk&Talk Theatre’s past productions of “The Last Garden” and upcoming work “End of the Line” (Premiering May 2024 with Theatre Projects Manitoba).

We encourage participants to come to both weekend sessions, but each workshop CAN be standalone. All participants will be encouraged to both write & dance during both sessions.

About Tanner Manson:

Tanner Manson (He/Him) is an ever-curious queer artist specializing in devised performance creation, physical theatre & playwriting. His work explores big questions about our tiny world, often dancing around philosophical quandaries and love, in all its forms. He is passionate about nurturing relationships & long term collaboration while creating new & exciting work. Tanner has created work that popped up in outdoor spaces in the Interlake region of Manitoba with Theatre Projects Manitoba, in a solo clown show that popped in the front yards of city-dwelling households with One Trunk Theatre, and has danced with constellations of dancers in local parks with Weather Parade Dance Theatre. He is co-founder of Walk&Talk Theatre Company where he produces, performs & choreographs original musicals and is currently in the midst of their inaugural season featuring the WORLD PREMIER of THREE ensemble-driven musicals including END OF THE LINE, a co-pro with Theatre Projects Manitoba where he will be choreographing AND performing!
